The inspiration behind the Urban Weather Station stemmed from the desire to create a compact technological cube that could seamlessly blend with the environment. The final design, however, evolved into a cylindrical form, reminiscent of meteorological instruments reaching for the sky. The device's illuminating slot serves a dual purpose - it allows air to enter and emits a warm or cold light, indicating the air quality.

What sets the Urban Weather Station apart from traditional weather monitoring devices is its innovative interface. The device communicates directly with the user's smartphone, eliminating the need for an LCD screen or buttons. This groundbreaking concept has allowed the designers to reimagine the weather station, giving it a fresh, innovative design.

The Urban Weather Station is a marvel of modern technology. Encased in a durable aluminum shell and UV-resistant ABS plastic, it features a range of sensors, including temperature, humidity, barometer, CO2, and sound meter. These sensors allow users to monitor both indoor and outdoor conditions, including noise pollution exposure.

The device's technical specifications are equally impressive. The outdoor module measures 1.8x1.8x6 inches and weighs 135 grams, while the indoor module measures 1.8x1.8x4.1 inches and weighs 193 grams. The Netatmo Station is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n compatible and features a long-range wireless connection between modules. Furthermore, the station's API allows users to integrate data into their home automation system, controlling ventilation and heating.

The Urban Weather Station is not just a personal device; it's a part of a vast online network of weather sensors. Users can monitor their weather station from multiple smartphones and connect to multiple stations from a single smartphone. This connectivity has led to the creation of the first hardware-based, weather and climate monitoring network with live crowd-sourced data.

The Urban Weather Station project began in May 2011 and was commercialized in September 2012. It is now available in over 75 countries.
